John Joseph Quatman, 77, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on October 29, 2024. Born on January 18, 1947, 'Joe', as he was affectionately known, was a character. He graduated from Chaminade High School before earning his degree from the University of Dayton.
Joe served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He was known for his successful CPA practice, where his clients often showed their appreciation with various baked goods and candies. Joe loved to mix his favorite things: jokes and numbers into cringe-worthy math jokes. He would share spicier jokes with grown-ups.
While Joe often joked that he turned down his employer's 401k plan because he "couldn't run that far," he was a cross-country runner in high school and could still outrun the players on the soccer teams he coached in the 1980s. He was known to be generous to a fault, allowing a homeless person to sleep on the sofa for a few days until she called several friends to join her. He never had good luck with cars and once famously had to "flee" a Ford Pinto that had spontaneously combusted and was reported in the Dayton Daily News.
Joe is survived by his children, Ken Quatman (Angie) and Ellen Gormley (Tom); grandchildren Tony, Lauren, Rachel Quatman; Maura and Patrick Gormley; brothers Jerry Quatman (Shirley), Dave Quatman, Mike Quatman, Bob Quatman; and sisters Anita Fricke (Joe) and Mary Sepeck (Steve) and dozens of Beloved step-children, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Loretta Quatman (Thomeczek), Father, Elmer L. Quatman, brother Elmer Quatman, and sisters Carol Wilt and Beverly Gannon.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice. He will be deeply missed. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
