John Joseph Bungart 69, of Springfield, Ohio (formerly of Bellbrook, Ohio and White Lake, Michigan) passed away March 9th, 2023. Anyone who knew John knew that his daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and the twinkle in his eye. He loved spending time with them, watching them play sports, or doing just about anything with (or for) them. It was his joy to spoil his grandchildren on their special birthday “Papa dates” or spend hours beating them at ping pong, telling them stories, swimming with them, snuggling the babies, tossing the football, and taking them fishing.
John was a great conversationalist; he could talk to anyone like they were longtime friends. He was a friend to all, didn't know a stranger, and would do anything for anyone. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease, joke, and laugh. He began each day by listening to his favorite praise music, reading his Bible over coffee, and feeding his beautiful fish. He loved nature and animals, especially aquariums. His passion for tropical fish began early in life when he purchased a starter tank with his birthday money and developed into a lifelong hobby.
John was born November 27th, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan to Eleanore and Peter Bungart, the fourth of seven children. John graduated from Fitzgerald high school in 1972, he was a great athlete, and loved basketball, softball, and outdoor recreation. After graduation he took a carpentry apprenticeship test and was hired immediately. A talented and creative carpenter, John owned his own business and worked for over 40 years. John leaves us with a huge void, but we hold tight to the many beautiful memories we have and take peace knowing that he loved and trusted in Jesus and we will be united with him again one day.
He is survived by his two daughters, Amber (Nate) Lasso and Andrea (Justin) Gildow; their mother Therese Bungart; eight grandchildren Elliott Peter, Elaina, Evan, Eden Lasso and Joshua, Jude Joseph, Alivia, Aila Gildow; his siblings James (Linda) Bungart, Mary Jane (Joe) Bassil, Ken (Janey) Bungart, Pete (Mary) Bungart, David (Cheri) Bungart; and countless beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Christian (Jeanne) Bungart.
Family will receive guests at the Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio on Friday, March 17th from 4-7pm and Saturday, March 18th at 11am with funeral service at noon.
