John Paul Adkins, age 64, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on October 28, 2021. Born in Dayton on July 13, 1957, John later moved to Seaman, Ohio in Adams County. In high school he excelled in basketball and graduated from North Adams High in 1975. John joined the Army, spent time in Germany, and served as an MP. He worked for the United States Postal Service and retired in 2019 after 38 years of devoted service. John was passionate about sports and especially liked playing basketball and golf. He enjoyed cheering on the Bengals, Buckeyes, and Flyers with family and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, Mime Marie and McCoy Polk Adkins, as well as his brother, Darrell Wayne Adkins. John is survived by his wife of nearly 33 years, Amy Louise Adkins. He is also survived by his three children: Chad Adkins (Betsy) from Dayton, Tiffany Neuhausel (Joe) from Chicago, and Beau Adkins (Aimee) from Cincinnati. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Thomas McCoy, Bronwyn Marie, Samuel Joseph, Charlotte Marie, Eleanor Ann, Graham Joseph, and Madeline Louise. Furthermore, John is survived by his brother, Charles Adkins, sister, Rebecca Crothers, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate John’s life will take place Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Tobias Funeral Home, located at 5471 Far Hills Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. Masks are highly encouraged. The visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. After the ceremony, the family invites you to join them at the home of John’s son, Chad, for the sharing of food and memories.
