Ilene was born in 1932 in Salyersville, Kentucky. In 1950, she embarked on a lifelong partnership with Paul Risner, and together they built their lives in Dayton, Ohio. For over two decades, Ilene worked the General Motors assembly line, crafting steering wheels and dashboards. She retired from the Inland Division of General Motors in Vandalia, Ohio, where she worked in the computer room.
Known for her nurturing nature and unwavering commitment to her family, Ilene leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her. She found joy in the company of her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Much of that time was dedicated to creating delicious homecooked southern meals. Her most loved recipes were her homemade biscuits and red-eye gravy, butterscotch pie and chicken and dumplins.
Ilene is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 54 years, Paul, along with her parents, Riley and Grace Adkins, and siblings Ernest Adkins, Donald Atkins, Leneva Holbrook, Elizabeth Bowling, and Vera Glenda Perry. She is survived by her brother Ronald Adkins, daughters Marla (Chris) Halley and Terri (Gary Dean) Huber, grandchildren Ryan (Ashley) Halley, Joshua (Morgan) Huber, Aubrey (Joshua) Minnich, Jessica (Ronnie) Ortiz, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to honor Ilene's memory during a visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a service on June 10th, 2024, at Tobias Funeral Home – Far Hills Chapel, located at 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429.
