Dan was born in Lynchburg TN on October 10, 1940 and died June 8, 2021. He graduated from Moore County (TN) High School in 1958. After one and a half years at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, he joined the Air Force. He was selected for the Air Force Airmen Education Commission Program and sent to University of Oklahoma when he graduated with a degree in aero-space engineering in 1964.
Dan worked at Wright-Patterson as an Air Force officer and then civilian for over 30 years in EN structure and fatigue on many planes, but his favorite was the F-16. He received a Meritorious Civilian Service award for his work as Fracture and Durability Structure Engineer for the F-16.
After retiring from Wright-Patterson he worked at University of Dayton Research Institute as Group Leader of Flight Systems Integrity for 17 years.
Dan coached his sons’ Little League and softball teams, played golf, enjoyed bridge at the Beavercreek Senior Center, and liked attending grand children’s games. He and Carolyn watched Oklahoma football games and attended Indiana University basketball and football games. Dan served on the City of Beavercreek Park Board and was chairman several years. He was honored to receive the Director’s Award for his outstanding volunteer service to the Board in 2018.
Dan’s survivors include his wife Carolyn, sons Tom and Doug (Christy), grand children Kathy, Eric, Jake, Stevie, Sarah, Zach, and Matt and great grand daughter Kendall.
A Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, June 13th at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 14th at 11 AM also at Tobias followed by burial at Aley Cemetery.
