This loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend was born March 28, 1934 in Martin, KY to Robert Joseph Hughes and Maza Rebecca Crisp Hughes. He is survived by his wife Geneva Caudill Hughes, daughter Cheryl Satariano (Tony Satariano), son David Hughes (Jon Boston), grandchildren Anthony Satariano (Aubrey), Caitlin Satariano, great-grandson Charlie Satariano, and brother William Russell Hughes of Auxier, KY. Freeman was preceded in death by his siblings Mary Magdalene, Ernest Lewis, James, Hager, Joan, and Philemon.
Freeman graduated from Martin High School, worked two years in Michigan doing factory work, then entered the Air Force in 1954 where he served until 1958. He decided to attend Berea College and it was there he met Geneva. They married on September 2, 1961 before their senior year. After Freeman and Geneva graduated from Berea in 1962, Freeman taught school for 2 years at Laurelville High School. They lived in Circleville and Geneva worked at Berger Hospital. He decided to change jobs and started working at WPAFB, moved to Fairborn and later Beavercreek. After 30 years of government service, Freeman retired from WPAFB in 1990.
Freeman enjoyed his kids' and later his grandchildrens' activities. He loved the UK Wildcats, was a KY Colonel, and kept his love of the Kentucky mountains. Freeman and Geneva attended Kirkmont Presbyterian Church for many years which is where his visitation and service will be held. He and Geneva loved travel, had been to all 50 states, and greatly enjoyed the many national parks they visited. He loved birds and nature walks, many in the Beavercreek Wetlands.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Kirkmont Presbyterian Church, 3377 Shakertown Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45434 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 AM. with Pastor Dan Borgelt officiating. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery, 3256 Trebein Road, Fairborn, Ohio 45324
