Berry, Ann C, age 88 of Beavercreek, passed away on Thursday, April 25,2013. She was born at home on May 7, 1924, and grew up in Tipp City, OH. She graduated from Tippecanoe High School, class of '42. Her Tipp City nickname was "Bub" which her Tipp friends, family and great grandchildren called her. She was a proud graduate of Miami University, Oxford, in 1946, with a degree in education. She was in college during WWII when almost all of the students were women. She was a member of The Miami Hughes Society. Ann taught elementary school in Monroe, MI, at Jackson and Eastmont in Dayton Public Schools and E.G. Shaw in Beavercreek. She was a 5th grade teacher for 28 years at Page Manor and Beverly Gardens in Mad River Schools. She always valued and supported the benefits and opportunities of an education. She served as president of the Mad River Teachers Association, the Bur Oak Chapter of American Business Woman and the Mad River Retired Employees Organization. She was also a member of the Silver Oaks chapter of ABWA. She was active for many years in community issues and activities, was a volunteer for the Greene County women's shelter, Beavercreek Senior Center and the Victoria and Schuster Theatres. Ann was a charter member of the founding in 1956 and a lifelong member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ruth Naomi circle and served as president of the Peacemakers fellowship group. She loved planning their annual group trips around the country. She loved traveling, New York City, reading a good book, spending time with and hearing stories about her grandchildren and great grandchildren and had the family gene for our love of ice cream. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Berry, Jr in 1964, former husband E. Darrold Berry in 2003, parents Clarence and Marie Clawson of Tipp City, brother Richard Clawson of Arcanum, lifelong friend Janet Wesler, her cherished pet dog Nixon and cat Dolly. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Edward Ellison, Miamisburg, granddaughter Jennifer Lang and husband Jeffrey, Pittsburgh, PA, grandson William Ellison, Columbus, OH, great grandchildren Shelby Ann, Cassandra and Joseph Lang, sister-in-law Claudia Clawson, Sidney, OH, niece Kimberly Clawson, Chicago, nephew Bryan Clawson, wife Stacey and children Bradley and Lauren, New Orleans, LA, and many, many friends. The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Steven Chambers, his associates, and the ICU and pulmonary nurses at MVH for their wonderful care and concern throughout her illness. Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3530 Dayton-Xenia Rd. with burial following at Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11 AM prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel.
