December 20, 1939 – November 20, 2014
Sharon Elaine Deppner, 74, passed away suddenly on November 20, 2014. Sharon was born to Ben and Mildred (Boyd) Wright on December 20, 1939 in Grand Junction, Colorado. When Sharon was nine years old the family moved to Fruitland, WA. A year or two later they moved to Davenport, WA. Shortly after that Sharon became ill with polio and it took her a year to recover. Sharon graduated from Davenport High School in 1957.
Sharon married Art Deppner on her 18th birthday. They continued to live in Davenport where they raised their three children. Sharon retired from working in the Lincoln County Treasures office in 1998 after working there for 28 years. While raising her family she enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and golfing; even taking a newborn camping only days after giving birth. She enjoyed these activities with many friends and family throughout the years. When the bowling alley first opened in the 1960s she was in one of the first leagues that were formed. Her team won multiple championships over the years. Golf became her passion. She was a member of the Harrington Golf and Country Club where she served on the board and was active in the women’s association. You could usually find her on the course with her friends on Tuesdays, Thursdays and on weekends. She golfed in many tournaments and was pretty competitive. She even enjoyed a month of golf in southern California earlier this year. She wanted anyone and everyone to enjoy the game, so over the years she gave a couple of young folks rides to Harrington so they could spend the day golfing. When she wasn’t on the course, you could find her at the casino playing the slots. She loved the one-armed bandit and didn’t think she would like the computerized machines, but she adapted. One of the big prizes she won in a drawing at the casino was a fishing boat.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 56 years, Art; daughter Cathy (Deppner) Anderson of Davenport; son Craig Deppner of Harrington; sister Sandy Janke and her husband Mel of Davenport; brother Steve Wright and his wife Alice of Harrington; grandchildren Brooke (Anderson) Robbins and her husband Jon of San Leandro, CA, Rob Anderson of Moses Lake, Mitchell Anderson of Davenport, Josh Harrison and his wife Megan of Spokane, and Jeremy Harrison and his wife Bobbi of Olympia; greatgrandchildren Annalise Anderson, JD Anderson, Bethany Harrison, Hope Harrison and Kyli Harrison; and numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Mildred, daughter Cindy (Deppner) Rushton and son-in-law Dean Anderson.
Funeral Services will be held at State Funeral Home, Davenport, WA on Wednesday, November 26th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ted Broadway, Officiating. Interment at Mt. View Cemetery, Davenport, WA.
