Philip is now at rest with his Lord Jesus Christ after a 10 month battle with cancer. He was born the youngest of 10 children, to Earl and Brownie Mortlock in Colfax, WA. His family moved to Spokane in 1967 where he attended NW Christian School grades K-3, Reardan Schools grades 4-12 graduating with the class of 1984. From 1984-1987 Philip attended Eastern Washington State University.
Philip worked in Alaska for six months before moving to California to work construction with his brother Tim following the San Francisco earthquake. His oldest son Cameron was born while he lived in California. Philip was a conscientious, hard-working employee, most recently employed at Iron Mountain for 28 years.
Following marriage in Spokane to Erin Wells in 1996, they welcomed son Cain and daughter Evelyn to their family. Until his recent diagnosis, he loved scuba diving, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, and camping with his children. Philip could often be heard cheering for the Seahawks, Mariners, and Zags. He was actively involved in his church, The Bridge.
Philip was preceded in death by his father Earl, mother Brownie, brothers Dan and Len, sister-in-law Janice (Thew), and brother-in-law John Ortner. He is survived by sisters Judy, Becky (Russ), brothers Dave (Nancy), Gary (Rhonda), Rick (Maureen), Pete, Tim (Carolyn), Michelle Nelson, a very special friend of 40 years, Aunt Jeri, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service is planned at The Reardan Community Center, 120 N. Lake Rd, Reardan, WA, December 9th at 1:30pm. Please join friends and family at the open-mic reception 3-6pm. and bring a good memory to share.
