Viola E. Rock, 99, of Eldridge, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 1, 2017 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Viola was born June 14, 1918 on the family farm in Scott County to Charles and Dora (Frauen) Boll. She married Arnold C. Rock on May 4, 1938 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. They farmed their Century Farm north of Maysville, where she continued to live until moving to Grand Haven Retirement Community in 2007. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, Davenport Moose Lodge, Scott Co. Farm Bureau, Northwest Liedertafel, and Pythian Sisters. Those left to celebrate her life include children, Roger (Dee) Rock, Chandler, AZ, Merlin Rock, Bettendorf, Ila Jean Rock, Bettendorf, Marianne (James) Lucas, Sugar Grove, Ill., Marcia (Kent) Paustian, Walcott, Doris (Tom) Lawler, Davenport, Betty (Dave) Birney, DeWitt, Beverly (Mike) Osmun, DeWitt, and Dennis Rock, Eldridge, daughter-in-law Betty Ann Rock, Maysville, and special friend Doris McAdams, Bettendorf. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, son Richard in 2005, an infant daughter, an infant granddaughter, her parents, a sister Elsie and brothers Raymond and Roland. Viola enjoyed playing cards and bingo, reading, word search puzzles, and watching baseball and basketball games on TV. She was very sociable and liked visiting with her family and many friends. She especially loved family gatherings on the farm where many wonderful memories were created with her children and their families. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport, on Thursday, July 6 from 4-7 pm. A service of Christian burial will be held at 4 pm on Friday, July 7, at the funeral home, with Pastor Ron Huber officiating. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Randy Rock, Ronnie Rock, Todd Lawler, Kyle Birney, Ryan Birney, Chris Osmun, Kevin Lucas, and Brandon Rock. Memorials may be made to the Maysville Fire Dept., St. Paul Lutheran Church or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
