Tom was a beloved teacher and coach at Central High School for 30 years. He taught mathematics and physical education and coached both football and wrestling. He dedicated his life to shaping the minds and characters of countless students and was a mentor to many. Tom's passion for education and sports left a lasting impact on the community.
In his free time, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and finding solace in the great outdoors. This included annual deer hunting outings with the Murphy and Dunsworth families along with duck, pheasant, and squirrel hunting with his close friend Ira.
Tom's educational journey included attending Central High School, Iowa Teachers College (UNI), and post-graduate training at the University of Idaho.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jane, his brothers John Murphy (Willi) and Dan Murphy, his son Tom Murphy (Monna), his daughter Melissa Jones (Randy), grandchildren Katie Reichardt (Dan), Jenna Murphy (Alex Eaton), Ashley Jones, Mindy Jones, Sarah Hollerback (Deker), Mitchell Jones (Sarah), Matthew Jones, and great granddaughter Mya Reichardt.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bun and Murph, his sister Barb, and sister-in-law Lynn Murphy.
Tom will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
