Sue Dennis died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Davenport, Iowa at the age of 63. She is not here but has risen victoriously and is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sue is survived by her husband, Jim Dennis, of Davenport, IA. She is also survived by brothers and sisters: John and Sophie Lewis of Benton, LA; Yvonne and Dwayne Capps, of Hunt, TX; Robert and Nancy Lewis of Bastrop, TX; and Velma and Keith Wilks of Slaton, TX. She was dearly cherished by her nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Carolyn Lewis and Leo Jr. and Jane Lewis. Sue’s twin, Tina Lewis, of Shreveport, LA, joined her in Heaven on Sunday, December 5, 2021.
On June 27, 1958, Sue was born in Natchitoches, LA, to the late Dr. Leo Lewis and Sharmel Elliott Lewis. She graduated Valedictorian, with a 4.0 GPA, from Natchitoches High School and attended Northwestern State University of Louisiana. She entered the Nursing program, earning a 4.0 through the first 2 and 1/2 years. During the clinicals, Sue prayed for guidance as she always did, and the Lord spoke to her through the scripture Isaiah 55:12: “For ye shall go out with joy, to be led forth with peace.” She left nursing school and dedicated her entire life to living truthfully in the presence of her Lord.
Sue was united in marriage to Jim Dennis on May 12, 1979, in Marthaville, LA. She was more than a life partner; she was Jim’s inspiration, best friend, trusted confidant, and home. Sue dedicated her life to supporting their partnership and ministry for 37 years at the Hillcrest Church in Davenport, IA, and four years at Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk, IA.
Relatives and friends describe Sue as the kindest, gentlest, most sincere person who lived her life faithful to her beliefs. Sue, a successful Mary Kay consultant for 16 years (eventually earning the official prized car), donated all of her clients to a fellow consultant who was sick and without health insurance.
Everyone who met her can speak to her love, faith, and caring spirit. She did everything with thoroughness and excellence in the name of the Lord. While her time here on Earth ended too quickly, the promise and hope of reuniting in Heaven are inevitable.
Both visitation and funeral services will be at the Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on December 8, and Funeral Services will begin at 6:27 p.m., Thursday, December 9.
