Robert A. “Bob” Wells, 79, a resident of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held at the mortuary Monday from 4-7 pm. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Bob was born on March 12, 1934 in Vergennes, Vermont to Alfred and Pauline Wells. He graduated from Davenport High in 1952 and was united in marriage to Betty Snyder on December 30, 1954.
Bob retired from Oscar Mayer Foods after working, 44 years. He was an avid golfer, and was runner up in the Quad City Amateur golf tournament in 1954. He raised and showed quarter horses in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Bob also enjoyed hunting, fishing with his brother Larry and spending time with his family. Bob’s pride and joy was his 1948 Studebaker, Starlight coupe he loved showing with his brother Al. Bob also enjoyed going to the casinos with Betty, family and friends.
Those left to honor his loving, memory, are his wife of 59 years, Betty, children Debbie (Rich) Wells, and Steve Wells all of Davenport, IA, Kathy Wells, of Aurora, CO, and Dave (Mary) Wells, of Blue Grass, IA, and his grandchildren, Eric Wells of Aurora, CO, Amber Daniel of Davenport, IA, and Valerie Wells of Blue Grass, IA. Bob is also survived by his brothers Al of Janesville, WI, Larry (Debbie), and Glenn and sister Darlene all of Bettendorf, IA and his brother Ronnie of Greenup, IL, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family, friends and his cat Abby.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Genesis Hospitals, University of Iowa Hospital and especially the staff at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
