Robert E. Johnson, 86, of Davenport passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Genesis East Medical Center. Funeral services will be 12:00pm Tuesday in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is Monday 4-7pm at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Ridgecrest Village Davenport. Robert was born November 4, 1927 in Unionville, MO to George & Dora (Swiger) Johnson. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a fireman first class working alongside the SeaBees. Robert married Doris Marsden on August 27, 1960 in Davenport, IA. She preceded him in death in November of 2000.
For 28 years Robert worked at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring in 1987 as a lead man. After a 3 month retirement, Robert returned to the Arsenal as a contract employee and worked another 12 years before retiring again. He was a member of the Early Morning Lodge 672, Davenport AF & AM #37 and the Bettendorf VFW. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, yard work, & gardening, especially his tomato plants.
Survivors include: two daughters Joyce (Bob) Ingraham, Eldridge & Debra Johnson, Davenport; a son Vern Johnson, Davenport; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; & sisters Mary Wessel, Unionville, MO & Dorothy Linhart, Springfield, MO.
Robert was preceded in death by a son Bruce on May 25, 2014, sister Lois Cook, and 4 brothers Marvin, James, Earl, & Charles Johnson.
