Richard “Rich” F. Stanton, 81, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL. Memorial services in Massachusetts will take place at a later date to be announced. Richard will be inurned at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to the family to support the grandchildren’s futures. Rich was born in Boston, MA on September 8, 1942 to parents, Barbara (Foley) and Elmer Stanton. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962 where he worked as a Communication Technician for the National Security Agency. Although Rich never formally obtained a degree in higher education, he was constantly seeking knowledge. Following his time in the Navy, he worked as a computer programmer and professor for over 25 years. Rich married the love of his life, Barbara “Barb” Bergdoll on August 21, 1971 in Hyde Park. Together, they raised three children and had 52 loving years before he passed.
In his spare time, Rich was always seeking out new ways to challenge himself. He was an avid chess player and could often be found working on his computer. He enjoyed camping, even on frigid winter nights, in Allagash, Maine. Rich also spent much of his time working with his model trains. His quick witted nature was one of a kind.
Those left to honor Rich’s memory include his loving wife, Barb; children, Damon (Jaclyn) Stanton, Beth (Chris) Kelley, Paul (Katie) Stanton, and grandchildren, Travis, Drew, Sophia, Sawyer, Harrison, Everleigh.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Barbara, and his siblings, Robert, Barbara, MaryAnn, Michael, and Francis.
