We have wonderful memories of Richard and Jan - mostly focused around music.  We loved hearing Richard sing anything, but perhaps especially the Edith Piaf song.   He and Jan were always such gracious hosts in their home, and so willing to help in any way when a party or soirée was held elsewhere.  We miss them both and will remember them always.

I was so saddened to hear about Dick's passing. My many fond and happy memories of Dick go back over 50 years. There are so many like a Luther League" "winter picnic" or meeting in Storm Lake, IA just to get together with him and other friends for an afternoon of fun. The memory I treasure most was to be Matron of Honor at Dick and Jan's wedding.  l loved his sense of humor, his dedication to God and care and concern for others.    

So sad to have lost my good friend of 60 years.  I met Dick at Augustana in a music appreciation class.  He made me laugh so hard that I am surprised we weren’t kicked out of class.  Thus, a long friendship began.  He was a gifted man, both vocally and on piano and organ.  Generous to a fault.  I loved him like a brother.  I know he has wanted to be with Jan since she died.  I’m sure the angels are rejoicing in their newest treasure and he is with his beloved Jan, the sweetest of all angels, on earth and in heaven.  Rest In Peace, dear friend.


We are so thankful for the friendship we had with Dick  and Jan. Dick was not a happy man without his beloved Jan.
We believe they are again together making people think of kindness and love around the table of light and peace.

Dick was a great friend. We've known him since Augustana College Choir days. He was a marvelous singer with a soothing mellow voice. His skills at piano and organ made him first choice for other soloists who were seeking an accompanist. His sly, witty smile and ways brought merriment and humor to lives of many in many occasions. As a preacher, Dick spoke with simple, clear illustrations from life. He was warm and kind. A great friend. Now he joins his wife, Jan, and the many voices of the heavenly choir singing praises and glory to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

What a terrific guy!  He always had a smile on his face and had candy in his pocket for me, everytime he saw me at Augustana College Campus Ministries events.    He had a heart of gold.  He is going to be missed, but I am so happy he is now RIP with Jan.   Sympathy to all.


Very sorry to learn of Dick's passing; although I know he is happy to be reunited with Jan.  My mother and I had the honor of being fellow antique dealers and doing many shows with Dick and Jan.  I am sure there will be many Heavenly antique conversations with my mom.  He was always so pleasant and a wealth of information.

I had the honor of a friendship with Richard and Jan as exhibitors in our Antique Shows in Rock Island, IL for more than twenty years.  They watched our daughters grow up with the shows and always brought them hand made treasures or toys from their favorite Candy shop.  They were a treasure and are missed always.

Thoughts of good times on Sundays in Pleasant Valley when I was young with Richard, Sally and family.  With his passing, there are only 3 of the Wagner daughters children left.  Blessings

We trust you will take comfort from the many pleasant memories of the life and ministry you shared with him, and the countless lives you have blessed with the love of Christ.
