Raymond D. Simpson

Raymond D. Simpson, 81, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Unity Point – Trinity in Bettendorf. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 9, 2013 at Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Runge Mortuary. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.

He was born March 19, 1932 in Ainsworth, Iowa, son of Laird and Bonnie (Morgan) Simpson and served in the Navy during the Korean War. Raymond was united in marriage to Lois Ayers on December 30, 1954 in Davenport, Iowa. He worked 13 years at Red Jacket and over 28 years at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1994. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. He was on a softball team in the Quad Cities in the 1960’s and loved to watch softball games that family members were in.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Lois; two daughters, Cindy Dahl, Davenport and Shelly (Gary) Winslow, Camanche; grandchildren, Shalan (Jamie) Bush, Walcott, Wade (Sarah) Dahl, Blue Grass, Misty (Anthony) Rawlins, Marion, IA, and Mindy (Aaron) Mendoza, Clinton, IA; eleven great grandchildren; six brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
