Paul R. Hayles, 73, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 3-4 pm at Weerts Funeral Home. A private memorial service for immediate family will be held prior to the public visitation. Memorials in Paul’s name may be made to Almost Home dog training and boarding in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Paul was born on February 10, 1950, in Mobile, Alabama to Nathan and Alberta Hayles. His family moved to Atlanta Georgia where he attended high school. He was a standout student and was offered a scholarship to Georgia Tech Engineering. Instead, he followed his interest in becoming a journeyman electrician. Paul worked in the gas and electric business for over 40 years, working for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric, which became MidAmerican Energy. He was promoted to many positions, retiring as a supervisor of gas distribution.
He was united in marriage to Victoria Myetich on July 6, 1970, in Ringgold, GA; she passed away in 2021. Victoria was the love of his life. Paul and Victoria had two sons and were foster parents for 7 years while caring for thirty-one newborns and children. His lifetime volunteer efforts included Moline Little League (President); Church Youth Leadership (Royal Rangers); Hearts and Hammers; and a helping hand to many in need throughout the years. Paul did not know a stranger and had a helping heart for his family and those in need. He maintained relationships with his colleagues at MidAmerican and enjoyed coffee meeting them for coffee. He also participated in golf leagues and annual golf trips with friends. Most important to Paul and Vicky were their family – spending precious time spoiling grandchildren and participating in their events. Paul was universally regarded as “the nicest guy you will ever meet.”
Those left to honor his memory are his sons: Gary (Cheryl) Hayles and Steve (Rossy) Hayles; five grandchildren: Avery (Hannah Henderson) Hayles, Madison (Robyn) Koehler, Chloee (Dylan) Pope, Jacob (Alyssa) Hayles, Samuel (Lily Broyles) Hayles; and two great-granddaughters Everly Victoria Koehler and Ivory Rose Ray Pope.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria, his parents and twelve siblings.
