Orin "Gene" E. Phillips

Orin E. “Gene” Phillips, 81, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Genesis West Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 2:30 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gene was born June 14, 1930 in Montpelier, IA, the son of Orin C. and Rosabelle (Stickrod) Phillips. He was united in marriage to Lucile Buckingham on October 17, 1953 in Hampton, IL; she preceded him in death on January 2, 2009. He proudly served his country in the Army from 1948 to 1952.

Gene worked for eighteen years at JI Case Company prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Bettendorf V.F.W. and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and loved to tell stories. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his special friends and neighbors who were dear to him.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Nancy (Tom) Bents; Deborah “Ruby” Phillips and Bruce Phillips; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; half-brothers, Robert and Rod Nettleton and his beloved cat, Izzie.

His parents, brothers, Ronald and Larry Phillips and sisters, June Schroeder and Patricia Pohl preceded him in death.
