Mark Patrick Dwyer was born December 8, 1953 in Camp Pendleton, California to Patrick and Marilyn Dwyer. He passed away peacefully on August 14, 2013 in Davenport, Iowa surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Dwyer and brothers, Mitchell and Matthew Dwyer.
Mark was loved by all who knew him. He grew up in Southern California with sisters, Rebecca and Bonnie and Elizabeth and brothers, Mitch, Mike and Matt, all of whom had their own special relationship with him. He was an excellent student and received a full scholarship from USC.
While attending USA, Mark fell in love with the like of Henry Davis Thoreau and Neil Young and as a result, began his life journey. Mark moved to the Bay area where he made his home for twenty years. His jobs and occupations were diverse. Mark had a broad knowledge of numerous tradesman skills including plumbing, electrical and carpentry. Mark was called on to help with many projects. His famous quote was “get on it and stay on it” worked well when he was driving a screw with his “cordless” but not necessarily his mantra when it comes to doing a project.
Mark brought his skills to Iowa in 1995 where he worked as a tradesman and completed many projects for newly found customers who typically became fast friends. He clung to his beloved A’s and Cal Golden Bears and tolerated Hawkeye fans. He was always fun to watch a sports event with and had stories of his own athletic endeavors from little league to high school baseball, basketball and many different softball leagues.
Mark was adored by his nieces and nephews and loved them all. He could be as silly or serious as the occasion called for. He could be the life of the party as was oftentimes the target of always affectionate but downright teasing.
Mark is survived by his mother, Marilyn Dwyer of Duarte, California, sisters: Becky (Paul) Elias of Davenport, IA, Beth (Ken) Frank, Truckee, CA; Bonnie (Todd) Ammons, Glendora, CA; brother, Michael, Redlands, CA; special uncle, Dwight (Sandy) Husby, Gully, MN; nieces and nephews: Jeremiah Frank, Hannah, Isaac and Naomi Elias; Cassielyn, Wes and Sabrina Dwyer, Jillian and Kansas Dwyer and Amelia, Austin and Aiden Ammons.
There will be a celebration of Mark’s life at his sisters’ home on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 5:30 pm. Please wear green in honor of our loved “Irishman.” Please contact The Runge Mortuary for details at 563-391-6202. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com
