LaVerne “Skip” Dohrmann, 94, of Davenport, IA, passed away on July 10, 2024 at Ridgecrest Village. Visitation will take place at Weerts Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024. On Tuesday, July 16, a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Skip will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Grace Lutheran Church or to the German American Heritage Center, both in Davenport, IA.
Skip was born on May 18, 1930, in Davenport, IA, the youngest of Amanda (Geckler) and Robert Dohrmann’s nine children. In 1948, Skip graduated from Davenport High School. He began his career at IA-IL Gas and Electric Company (now MidAmerican) in 1949, then enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955. Following discharge, Skip returned to the company, retiring after over 43 years as Superintendent of the Gas Telemetering Division in 1992.
On June 12, 1954, Skip married the love of his life, Shirley (Anderson) at Grace Lutheran Church. Together, they had three children and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Skip was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities throughout the years. In his spare time, he adored volunteering at the German American Heritage Center, where he was a charter and life member, celebrating his German heritage. He also enjoyed researching family genealogy, bowling, and getting together with friends to play cards. Skip was also a big Cyclone fan and, with great pride, sent his three children to Iowa State University.
Those left to honor Skip’s memory include his wife, Shirley; children, Jay (Julie) Dohrmann, Jon (Kristine) Dohrmann, Joy (Paul) Judas and grandchildren, Michael Dohrmann (Shawna Mitchell), Sara Dohrmann, Elizabeth Dohrmann (Spencer Bradley), Matthew (Mary) Dohrmann, Nicholas Dohrmann, and Nathaniel Judas.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Herbert, Bernice, Jerome, Virgina, Werner, twins Roberta and Hertha, and Robert.
