John B. Ruiz, Sr. 70, of Eldridge passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 in the comfort of his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2017 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made at American Cancer Society or Genesis Hospice. John was born on August 6, 1947 in Waukegan, IL son of Baldemar and Esther (Quintanilla) Ruiz. He was united in marriage to Anita Moraetes on February 18, 1983. He proudly served as a field medic during Vietnam in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. He worked as a machinist on the Rock Island Arsenal for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He was a handyman and was able to fix many things, taking great pride in being a landlord. John will be remembered as a jokester with a wonderful sense of humor. Being a lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs he enjoyed watching the games with his son. Above all his greatest accomplishment was being a grandfather. Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Anita; children Sylvia (Dave) Snyder, Keithsburg, IL, Caroline (Crystal) Eakins, Davenport, John Snyder, Bend, OR, Yolanda Ruiz, Rock Island, Kristina (Jeremy) Timmerman, Donahue and JB (Emily) Ruiz, Jr., Eldridge; step-daughter, Kristie (Frankie) Avila, Moline; grandchildren: Angelica, Olivia, Nicolette, Kaden, Jackson, Jameson, Ellisiya, Eleanor and Karver and sister, Maria Elena Ruiz de Martinez, San Antonio, TX. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Maria Teresa Rodriguez.
