John Charles Lee

John C. Lee, 74, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on September 29, 2019 at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11am at Grace Lutheran Church, 1140 E High Street Davenport. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 4-7pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Memorials in John’s name may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Genesis Hospice.

John was born in 1945 to Sylvan and Agnes Lee in Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and went on to serve in the United States Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant during the Vietnam War. John earned his Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and later went on to earn his Master’s Degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and Marycrest. John was a teacher at Williams Jr. High School Davenport, Iowa for 34 years before retiring and he was also the athletic director. On June 2, 1973, he was united in marriage to Cynthia “Cindy” Ihrig, they had two children. John was an active member at Grace Lutheran Church. He loved going on road trips, camping, and hiking. John loved spending time at their cabin and watching his grandchildren grow.

He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and served as a Past President of the Sons of Norway.

Those left to honor John’s memory are his loving wife of 46 Years, Cindy; children Jennifer (Kevin) Krzmarzick and Jonathan (LaDonna) Lee; four grandchildren, Roman and Lincoln Krzmarzick and Maddux and Lauren Lee; and sisters Sylvia Sabo and Margaret Bostelmann. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House, the Genesis Home Hospice group, and to Lori, Christina, and Moira for all of their love and support during this difficult time.
