Private family services were held. John’s final resting place is the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.
A celebration of life is planned for Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 4:00p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Mac's Tavern, 316 W. 3rd Street Davenport, IA.
John was born in Forsyth, Monroe County, Georgia, January 8, 1946, to George and Dora (Bernard) Jackson. He attended Monroe County Schools. After high school graduation he later was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War while being stationed in Ft. Benning, GA; Ft. Gordon, GA and in Germany. After his military service, John married Judy Hines and later divorced.
John continued his education attending Georgia State University earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1973. Later in life he attended Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, IA earning a master’s degree in business administration with a 4.0 GPA in 1997. His academic performance earned him an induction into the Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Fraternity in 1997.
After earning his bachelor’s John took a civilian job with the Department of Defense, U.S. Army Material Command retiring in 2004 after 32 years which took him to 10 foreign countries and 40 states. John served as Budget Analyst for the Logistic Armament Representative (LARs) Program.
An avid private instrument rated aviator, John belonged to both the Red River Army Depot and the Rock Island Arsenal’s flying clubs where he was appointed by the Arsenal Commander to serve as the Club Treasurer and Property bookkeeper. John loved taking his boys flying, teaching them the ropes and letting them fly as well as making many trips to Georgia and Tennessee.
John will be remembered by his sons, Jeff Jackson, Arlington, VA; Brian (Brooklyn) Jackson, Bettendorf, IA; and Eric (Linsey) Jackson, Des Moines, and grandchildren: Andrew, Amelia, Bryson and Carson Jackson; and his sister, Ann McClay, Forsyth, GA.
