Janice Loraine Christensen, 96, of Moline, died peacefully Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in Moline. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 16, 2015 at 10:30 am in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 15, 2015 from 3- 5 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Janice was born January 17, 1919 in Bennett, IA; the daughter of Dr. Wilmer H. Fitch and Ethel Chloe Hiner. She was a graduate of Davenport Central High School and attended Marycrest College.
Janice was a successful ballet dancer and taught in Scott and Cedar Counties in her earlier years. On May 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to Vern Edward Christensen of Durant. While Vern was serving in the Army during WWII, she worked at the Draft Board. She later volunteered for the Red Cross. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2002.
Janice and Vern had two children who were loved dearly. They spent their summers on the Rock River for many years and entertained many at their cottage there. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, and St. Martha’s Altar Guild at Christ Episcopal Church in Moline. She was also a founding member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Moline.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Jan (Diane); daughter, Lisa (Steven) Griffin; grandsons: Michael (Tatum) Griffin; Chad (Stephanie) Christensen and Christopher Griffin (Scott Rexroat); granddaughters: Beth Ann (David) Carlin and Katie Lynn (Jason) Trent; nine great grandchildren; two nephews and her beloved dog, Brookie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilmer; mother, Ethel and stepfather, Harry T. Knox.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to her caregiver and special friend, Pam Hinrichs and the staff at Trinity Hospice for their loving care and support.
