Helen Violet Riessen, 90, of Davenport passed away in the comfort of her own home with her son, Robert at her side on Sunday, October 13, 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 11:30 am at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Helen was born January 25, 1923 in Davenport at the 1st Street family home. She was the daughter of Hans and Marie (Maier) Stoffers, Sr. She was united in marriage to Delmar Riessen on August 3, 1946 in Davenport; he preceded her in death on February 2, 1988. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who always wanted to see the best in everyone. She was a homemaker for over 67 years. She enjoyed her bird, rabbit and squirrel feedings; bird watching; oil painting from age 65 to present; reading her morning newspapers and living in Arizona for winters since 1983. She served on the former Mercy Hospital Pink Ladies (now Genesis) from 1973 until 2004. She enjoyed genealogy of her family backgrounds. Helen also was a singer of music singing of “low” German language. She was the last of nine kids. Helen was also a loving great grandmother to Reagan who was four. Her other memberships included: Masonic Caldron, Plus 60 Club, AARP and the American/Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society. Those left to honor her memory include her sons: Robert, Davenport, IA; Steven (Alcina), San Marco’s, CA; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Noah) Chitty and her husband; great granddaughter, Reagan Chitty, all of Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Donna Swift, Milan, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Henry, Hank, Jack, Zeke and Don and sisters: Mary, Ann and Geri.
