Gloria Jean Ahrens

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. Gloria was born November 10, 1936 to John and Esther (Elliott) Wilson in Sac City, IA. She served as the Iowa Rainbow Girls Grand Worthy Advisor, attended Grinnell College, and received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. She worked as a teacher and legal secretary for many years. Gloria met her kind and loving husband, Gene Ahrens, and they enjoyed 31 years together before his passing in 2016.

Gloria was an accomplished piano player, huge music fan, and drummer. She reveled in Christmas, grandkids, and Yorkies. She loved travel, the seashore, and close friends. She was an enthusiastic photographer, home decorator, and collector of dolls.

Survivors include Children: Jim (Mary) Ames, Ruckersville, VA; Brenda (Dan) Hull, Bettendorf, IA; and Steven (Tammi) Ames, Cambridge, IL; Stepchildren and their families from California: Ruth (Manuel Azares) Ahrens, Lisa Sanchez, Nikki DeHay, John (Jill) Ahrens, and: Melinda (Kasey) Kelchner, TN, Terri (Michael) Morrissey, OH, and Andrea (Odis) DeLoach, GA. Grandchildren: Samuel Ames, Natalie Ames, Jacob Hull, Emily (Josh) Brooks, Daniel (Alicia) Ames, Renee (Josh) Sabinas; Great Grandkids: Caleb and Westin Brooks; Hannah, Noelle, and Sarah Ames; Eli and Mia Sabinas; Sister-in-Law Dorothy Wilson; Nieces JoAnn and Julie Wilson.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; brother Donald Wilson; and beloved husband, Gene Ahrens.
