Carol was born June 15, 1934 in Davenport, Iowa, to Benjamin and Veronica (Mahan) Risley. Carol graduated from Davenport High School, where she played clarinet in the school band and was a member of Rainbow Girls. She enjoyed a long career at Royal Neighbors of America, and after retirement, worked for many years in Eldridge at the White House, the Eldridge Meat Market, and Del’s Eatery and Pub. Carol is especially remembered for her fun-loving and generous personality, and holds a special place in the hearts of her cousins for the countless hours she spent with them as children playing games, picnicking, and shopping at the former Turnstyle discount store on Brady Street for special treats and treasures. She enjoyed reading, socializing with friends, Iowa Hawkeye football, and walking for exercise around her neighborhood. She was also devoted to her beloved dogs Jenny, Tasha, Katie, and Ally.
Carol is survived by her cousins Christine Thoensen Gilbertson of Clive, Iowa, Judith Thoensen Schroeder of Springfield, Missouri, David Richard Thoensen of Lincolnshire, Illinois, Peggy Risley Hallas of Rock Island, Illinois, and their families, as well as many special neighbors and friends.
