Betty L Souder

Betty L. Souder, 97, of Davenport died March 3, 2022 peacefully at home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 2pm at St. John's United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. John’s UMC Foundation or Davenport Central HS Band Parents Assoc.

Betty was born on Dec. 24, 1924 in Wayne County, IA, the daughter of Herman and Mae (Allison) Robinson. She graduated in 1942 from Allerton [IA] High School. She was united in marriage to Lars H. Souder on Sept. 1, 1946. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1994.

Betty was a secretary at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric for 7 years in Davenport and Iowa City. She was president of Washington Elementary and Sudlow Jr. High PTA’s, and was also a Campfire Girls leader. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter IC, Club of 89 Book Club, and various bridge clubs. Betty was an active lifetime member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at various schools and with a literacy group, helping with reading, library, and at special events.

Betty is survived by daughters Jo Vandecar (Kirk) and Vicki Souder, grandchildren David Vandecar and Allison (Vandecar) Stone, as well as one niece and one nephew. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 2 older twin sisters, Maxine Cook and Bernadine Petty.
