Arthur (Bud) Clarence Loewen, age 101, from Davenport, Iowa, passed away to be with his heavenly father on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Silvercrest Garner Senior Living. A celebration of life is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the First Evangelical Free Church in Moline, Illinois. Friends are welcome to visit starting at 10:00 AM at the church. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, Veterans Association, or First Evangelical Free Church.
Arthur was born on August 4, 1923, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to Henry and Emilie (Krieger) Loewen. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II from 1943 to 1946. On June 9, 1957, he married Martha Henkelmann in St. Joseph, Michigan.
Arthur worked as an electrician at Bendix Corporation in Benton Harbor, Michigan, before transferring to their Davenport, Iowa location. In 1974, he began working at the John Deere Harvester Works and retired in 1987. He had a passion for painting and woodworking, creating furniture and various household items, including many intricate and beautiful birdhouses. Arthur enjoyed traveling and was always eager to take a “ride” around town in his later years.
Arthur is survived by his four children: Doris (Kevin) Garrand of Estero, FL, Susan Loewen of Davenport, IA, Lisa Loewen of Moline, IL, and Curtis (Ann) Loewen of Davenport, IA, along with three grandchildren: Camron (Meara) Loewen of Rock Island, IL, Kristen Loewen of West Des Moines, IA, and Catherine Loewen of Davenport, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, three sisters: Ada Tiefenbach, Alice Wambaugh, and Edna Polfus; and a brother, Jack Loewen.
