Born on December 8, 1937, he was a son of the late Harold and Stella (Bouffard) Mombourquette of Halifax. Ron spent over 40 years at the Nova Scotia Research Foundation in the chemistry lab. In his younger years he played baseball, pitching for the Halifax Cardinals of the Eastern Senior League. He spent many happy hours teaching youngsters how to play sports. He loved all sports and was happiest when he had someone to watch a game with him. He led every conversation with a smile.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Walters), and children, Cheryl Waterfield (Rick Elwood), Dartmouth; Karen (Darrell) Pothier, Middle Sackville; David (Christina), Calgary; Ronald J (Patricia), Sarnia; Diane (Gordon Kiley), Dartmouth. He also leaves grandchildren Becky (Jared) Phillips; Joel (Laura Jones) Waterfield, Richard (Rick) (Amanda MacSween) Neima, Christina (Christie) Neima, Andrew (Caitlin) Neima, Alexandre (Gabryelle Beland) Mombourquette, Katherine (Katy) Mombourquette and Emma Kiley; great-grandchildren Madison, Cooper, Jace and Grayson.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Raymond, Harold, John, Roy and Gerald, sisters Mildred Ross and Shirley Wilson, sister-in-law Irene Mombourquette and brothers-in-law Donald Ross, Bernard Wilson, Clark Zinck and John Coleman.
He is survived by sisters-in-law Jean and Marlene Mombourquette, Halifax, Jeannie Mombourquette, Sydney, Joyce Zinck, Bridgewater; Claire (Patrick) Griggs, Dartmouth; and Carol Coleman, Duncan, BC.
Cremation has taken place, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Clement Church, 16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth on Monday, November 6 at 11 a.m., with Fr. Varghese presiding. A reception will follow from 12 – 2 p.m., at the Austenville Owl’s Club, 34 Oakdale Crescent, Dartmouth.
