Born in Halifax, Bob was the son of the late Captain William Gerald Kent and Carmen (Hubley) Kent. He attended school in the Imperoyal Village and, later, the former Halifax Vocational School. He joined the Canadian Navy at 18, serving for 25 years as an Armour Officer, during which time he spent five years serving in Germany and retired with a Master Seaman designation.
Bob was an avid gardener, hunter and outdoorsman, passionately pursuing these interests throughout his life. Bob shared his love of nature with his nieces and nephews, with trips to his farm in Elderbank, and the family cabin in Renfrew, where tapping the maple trees and fishing made memorable adventures.
Bob was a steadfast presence in our close family, joining weekly coffee visits with his brother, Don, and cousin, Ron, where the latest hockey or baseball game would always be a topic of discussion.
Bob is survived by his brother, Don (Dartmouth), niece, Linda Borden (Dartmouth), niece, Ann Marie Kent (Paul Brushett) (Halifax), grandnephews, Scott and Kyle Kuhn, Alexander Brushett, grandniece, Elena Brushett, close cousin, Ron Kent, niece-in-law, Robyn Webb, and numerous members of the extended Kent family. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Carmen, brother-in-law, Fred Kuhn, nephews, Michael Kuhn and Geoffrey Kent, and sister-in-law, Elaine Kent.
A special thank you to Bob's neighbors, Rob and Sherry McVicar for always keeping an eye on Bob, regular chats, mowing and snow clearing and so much more. And thank you to all the nurses and care workers on 5W Dartmouth General Hospital for making Bob happy and comfortable in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to St. Alban's Anglican Church, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia or the charity of choice.
A service celebrating Bob's life will be held on July 10th at 11:00am at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Dartmouth. A private burial will take place at Mount Hermon Cemetery.
