HARDY, Robert George – of Dartmouth, June 5, 1950 - June 28, 2021 With Sadness, we announce the death of Robert George Hardy on June 28, 2021 with his loving wife Darlyn at his bedside. He is survived by their son Kyle, daughter in law, Belinda, granddaughter, Sabriel, siblings, Russ (Cathy), sisters, Gwen (Brian) Karen nephews, Stephan, (Abby) & David, niece, Tara (Clint). Bob was born with his identical twin Russell Leslie, in Calgary, sons, of Joseph Russell & Margaret Lorraine (Pettypiece) Hardy. The twins inherited their parent's musical ability & carried it on to university. It was at this time Bob continued his love of sailing. Bob's love of Vancouver Island started when his grandparents took the children there for holidays. In 1968, Bob entered Royal Roads & continued to Royal Military College, Kingston receiving his BEng. He later graduated with his MEng from University of Ottawa. During his posting at Shearwater, he met his wife (Darlyn Belong) & they continued their journey of life, living away from Nova Scotia for several years but they returned for a few holidays, which were spent at Grandma's house on the South Shore where he could enjoy the ocean, reading and his music. After being posted back to NS, he continued his love of sailing and he especially enjoyed "Chester race week" with his friends and colleagues. He was soon teaching Kyle how to sail. He was a patient, loving, kind, loyal husband & father. Bob worked in several senior military positions in various locations across Canada and abroad. He was recognized for his contributions & efforts several times throughout his career. He was a true, loyal Canadian. Following his military career, he joined IMP Aerospace for 18 years, where he retired as the vice President of Quality & Airworthiness. Now it was time for the "Bucket list". Bob with Darlyn left Nova Scotia and headed across Canada in pursuit of the Gulf islands. After being settled, Bob joined tennis, pickle ball, golf, bridge, walking club and set about organizing his boating trips. Bob and Darlyn joined a bridge group of 20 people and these friends were vigilant in keeping them "sane "during covid and Bob's long 18 months of suffering. They would text, phone and play bridge on line with us on a regular basis. Bob's bridge friend Frank, who had a medical background, provided daily support by phone. A Friend David was consistent for daily chats. Friends Des and Sara were always close by for assistance. A Big thank you to my younger sisters Beth & Bev who were always there night & day for both of us. Thank you to the many friends always giving us support and understanding with phone calls or emails and to Row and Bob. Donations may be made to the Canadian MPN Research Foundation. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 9th at 1pm in A L Mattatall Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is by invitation only. Public viewing of the service can be accessed at www.funeraweb.tv. Robert “Bob” will be interred in Lockeport Cemetery, Lockeport, Nova Scotia.
