BORDEN, Robert Wood - Of Dartmouth. It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert “Bob” Wood Borden at the age of 87 after a brief illness. Dad passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021 in the Dartmouth General Hospital with his son and daughter by his side. Born in Sioux Lookout, Kenora, Ontario, the only child of the late Orah and Jock Borden, he spent his early years growing up on his grandparents’ farm in Harbourville, NS. He moved to Dartmouth to live with his parents at the end of the war at the age of 14. A sports enthusiast, Dad played basketball, football, hockey, and baseball. In the early 1950’s he pitched a no-hitter for the Dartmouth Junior Arrows. As a young man he worked at Woodlawn Dairy and the Dartmouth Shipyards. Dad retired from The Halifax Herald after 40 years as the foreman of the press room. He loved gardening at the home that he built. He was an exceptional wood turner and carver. Along with our Mom, Dad enjoyed entertaining family and friends and the challenge of preparing elaborate gourmet meals. He was devoted to his loving wife, Rhoda, for 66 years and to his children Brenda Borden (Allan King) of Dartmouth and Bob (Cheryl) Borden of Fletcher Lake. His pride and joy were his grandson, Robert (Shelby) Borden and granddaughter, Taylor Borden. The past year was a difficult one for our Dad. Frequent visits from his great granddaughter, Lincoln Jane, and from his grand dogs brought him so much joy. Dad was predeceased by his wife Rhoda and his granddaughter Jessica Borden. A very special thank you to our Newfoundland ladies Kathy and Elsie who provided loving care to our Dad over the last several months. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 7 at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Rd. COVID-19 protocols will be followed. In lieu of flowers donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Feed Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
