July 19, 1959- January 11, 2024
It’s with mixed emotions that I announce my death after a 2 year battle with ovarian cancer on January 11, 2024. I was fortunate to have had my family with me during my very peaceful passing at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS.
Although I have left sooner than I would have liked, or certainly had planned on, I have enjoyed a full and satisfying life, filled with family, creativity, spirituality, and career.
I can say that I had a very happy work life. I enjoyed my time as a teacher, both in the figure skating world and at Miss Murphy’s Business College. In my 17 years with Parks Canada and my 12 years at NSCC, I found challenge and fulfilment. More importantly, I made many friends. I thank God for blessing my life with these wonderful souls.
I was predeceased by both maternal and paternal grandparents and my father, William (Bill) Smith. I leave behind to grieve my mother Peggy-Ann Smith; loving partner, Jacques Rouleau; son Curtis Smith-Sheremeta; daughter Lillie-Claire Smith-Sheremeta (Adam Langlois); brothers Edward (Patsy) and Mark; sister Melanie; nephews Mackenzie (Meliza) and Rylan; niece Victoria (James Black). I am also a proud great-aunt to Valery, Amina, and Noah. Thank you Mackenzie and Meliza!
Please join my family and friends to celebrate my life. Visitation will be at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St, Dartmouth on Friday January 19th from 3-6. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 20th at Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, 9 Veterans Ave., Dartmouth. Not one for stuffy occasions, I encourage you to come dressed as you wish; you know how much I appreciated “real” folks. Please bring with you any kind (or humorous) words you would want to share. You know I will be listening!
Please, please don’t spend your money on flowers. I am kindly requesting that donations be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada. It is time to beat this disease!
