Age 89, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia passed away on December 10, 2015 in the Dartmouth General Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Framboise, Nova Scotia on March 7, 1926. A daughter of the late Daniel William Strachan and Margaret (MacPhail) Strachan. Predeceased by her husband Frank Donald Matheson, daughter in law Carolyn (Weeks) Matheson; brothers Jevens, John, Alvin, DaNeil and Angus; sisters Euphemia, Katherine and Georgia. Mary is survived by her sister Agnes Kelly of Avon Mass. Her children Jevens Matheson, Dartmouth; Ellen Bell, Oakwood, Ontario: Glenda (Shawn ) McCormick, Dartmouth. As well as by grandchildren Jason (Kelly McArel) Matheson, Dartmouth; Jennifer (Jason Young) Matheson, Dartmouth; Leslie Bell, Lindsay, Ontario; Laurie (Kevin ) McCarthy, Lindsay, Ontario; Colin and Ian McCormick, Dartmouth. Great grandchildren Rylin and Kenzie Matheson and Hannah and Jack McCarthy. She will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was a long time member of Woodlawn United Church; a life time member of the United Church Women and a member of the Hon Joseph Howe Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She was happiest spending time with her family and friends at her beloved Grand River and was known for her joy of baking. Visitation will be on Friday Dec 18th from 2- 4pm and 7-9pm at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday Dec 19th at Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Road, Dartmouth. Internment will take place at the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Cape Breton in August 2016. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Mary to the QE II Foundation.
