Our beautiful mother passed away sleeping peacefully in the arms of her Lord, at home in Dartmouth on June 13, 2019. Born March 10, 1932 in Merland, she grew up in rural Nova Scotia and New Glasgow. In her mid-teens she moved with her cousin to the “Big Smoke” where she dedicated herself as a telephone operator for Bell Canada in Toronto and later for MT&T in Halifax. Despite that, her true vocation was as a mother. She joyfully spent her life nurturing and loving her family. To her colleagues, family, friends and to the entire community, Mary was a shining light and constant inspiration. Her life was filled with prayer, music and friends. As a member of the 3rd Order Franciscans, Altar Guild, many choirs and Eucharistic Minister she continually served her parishes. Through everything, Mary knew how to share her love of life and God. Mary was pre-deceased by husband Robert Ludington (Woodstock, ON) and is survived by their children Mark (Lorraine), Earl and Robert (Cecilia). She was also pre-deceased by husband Frank Carey (New Glasgow, NS) and her daughter Dr. Theresa Elaine Carey and is survived David and Diane Carey. She was also pre-deceased by husband William Corbett (Havre Boucher, NS) and Mark Corbett and is survived by his children Margaret, Sharon, Peter, Kevin, Heather, Ramona and Stephanie. Mary is also survived by her brother Francis Walsh and pre-deceased by siblings Catherine Decoffe, James, John, William, Leslie, Ernest and Peter Walsh. Mary will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Amy and Claire Ludington, Kelli Arenburg, Joshua, Jordan, Rebecca and Theresa Regan, her great-grandchildren DJ and Chloe Ludington, Sophia Dietrich, Ella Gregory and Chloe Regan Scott as well as her great-great-grandchild Katrina Ludington. A special thanks to Sharon Corbett and Robert Johnston for their love and dedication, the staff Dartmouth General Hospital, Kirk Rudolph, Rev Owen Connolly and Rev Irik Bem. Those who wish to pay respects will be warmly welcomed at A.L. Mattatall (217 Portland St, Dartmouth) for family and close friends at 6-8pm on Tuesday, June 18th and for the public at 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, June 19th. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John XXIII (35 Colby Drive, Cole Harbour) at noon on Thursday, June 20th followed by a reception by the CWL.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Franciscans of Halifax, L’Arche Canada, your Roman Catholic Church or your charity of choice.
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
O Little Therese of the Child Jesus, please pick for me a rose
from the heavenly gardens and send it to me as a message of love.
Amen
