On June 5th, 2024 Elizabeth Dallas Quinn, affectionately known as “Beautiful Beth”, peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with dementia. She was only 77 years old. A loving wife to her husband, James Gordon Quinn of 56 years, Beautiful Beth meant the world to so many in her family. A caring and doting wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Beautiful Beth took on many roles in her life, all of which selflessly focused on the betterment of others.
Born to William and Faustina Newman on February 13th, 1947, Beth was indeed the heart of her home and family. As the older sister to Maureen and Patsy, Beth’s role in life as “the care giver” was clearly defined at an early age. She raised two children, Shelley and Jamie, with just as much love and compassion as she was shown as a child. As a grandmother to Shelley’s three children, Christine,
Ryan, Logan and bonus grandchild Tyler Myers, Beautiful Beth continued this tradition of family devotion and spoiled her grandchildren with limitless love and kindness.
Giving back was what Beth was all about. As a Senior Receptionist for Chebucto Ford Car Dealership in Dartmouth, Beth worked tirelessly for 35 years to provide the best service to her customers. As with her family, she gave her heart and soul to her job and went out of her way to juggle many responsibilities. For many years, after a full days work and after going home to make dinner for her husband, kids, and ailing mother, Beth (and Jim) would then return to clean the dealership she had left just a short time ago. Nothing was off limits for Beth if it meant better providing for the ones she loved the most.
Not only was Beth hardworking and determined, but she was also talented. Professionally trained as a singer, Beth had the most angelic high-soprano voice that always charmed the hearts of any audience she sang for. She won several local singing competitions as a young woman, including the acclaimed Halifax Rose Bowl and her performances at St. Pats High School assemblies were deemed as “The Magic of Beth”. Mom would then go on to use this talent to capture 1st runner-up in the 1965 Miss Halifax pageant. Over the years, this beauty queen shared her talent when needed for friends weddings, celebrations of life, and special occasions.
Beth's love of music extended to dance as well. She loved to get on a dance floor or even a living room floor, and show off her moves. Until her journey prevented her, many a family gathering saw Beth dancing to her favourite songs and living in the moment. ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” will always hold a special place in our family.
Whether it was taking care of her Mom, her husband's Mom, her daughter’s children or even the family pets, Beautiful Beth dedicated her life to taking care of those she loved. She sacrificed her needs for the needs of others and was always willing to be wherever you needed her, doing whatever it took to get the job done. Staying up late to help her children get their book reports done, editing her sister Patsy’s University papers, cheering on her grandkids many sporting competitions, or just being an incredible cook and baker were all roles that Beautiful Beth graciously took on and mastered. She was indeed anything you asked her to be and every woman she had to be.
She was our family’s hero, our saint, our singer, our dancer, our heart… our everything. She made everyone she touched feel loved and special and we will forever be in her debt. She was predeceased by her parents and two infant daughters Mary Elizabeth and Tina and survived by her husband, two children, four grandchildren, two sisters, and nieces and nephews. Beth is no doubt still watching over us all, dancing in the stars and singing our praises to the angels above. You will forever be missed but never forgotten, our Beautiful Beth.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 13th, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Mattatall’s Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Funeral Services on Friday, June 14th at 1:00PM, also at Mattatall’s Funeral Home. Please drop by and join us as we celebrate the beautiful life of Beautiful Beth.
