BURGESS, Edna May — Halifax, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010. She was the daughter of George Charles Heard and Gladys Belle (Langille) Heard. She attended Dartmouth High School and was a graduate of Mrs. Murphy's Business College. She worked for many years for the Prudential Insurance Company of America as a supervisor. After marriage she worked in her husband's businesses (The Kettle of Fish, Briarwood Golf Course together with other businesses). She enjoyed oil painting and her oil paintings were very popular and sold quite easily at painting exhibitions. She enjoyed piano playing, travelling with her family, gardening, woodlands and fishing, among many other outdoor activities. She loved to read and particularly enjoyed history, geography and current events. She was loved and respected by everyone she met. She will be sadly missed by her husband, James Rex Burgess; her sons, Barry Rex Burgess, Halifax; Christopher George Burgess and his wife (Mary), and their two children David and Sarah Burgess who currently live in Vermont. She is also survived by her nieces, Linda and Carol, and nephew Brian Barker. She was predeceased by her brother, George Owen Heard, and her sister Mary Marguerite Barker. Visitation will be held Thursday April 22, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Stairs Memorial United Church, Rev.
