Carl Brian MacNeil of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Dartmouth General Hospital a week before his 76th. Brian was born in Sydney, the son of the late Catherine (Lynk) and Charles MacNeil.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Dixon and their two children, of whom he was so proud, Gary (Christine McDonald) of Dartmouth, and Heather (Jason Mills) of Greenville, NC. His grandkids who were the third love and joy of his existence, Nolan, Maya, Brynn, and Wyatt Mills and Catherine and Nora MacNeil. He is also survived by his brother Fraser (Brenda) and his in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Charlotte Gillis and Jessie Hilborn and brothers John, Freeman, and Grant.
Brian worked at surveying and engineering firms through his career and retired from Halifax Water. After retirement, he volunteered with circle of care in Dartmouth and in the Emergency Department at DGH. He believed in giving back to his community.
Brian had many hobbies, but wood carving and painting were probably his favorites. Watching his kids and then grandkids play sporting events were a highlight for him, which he got to enjoy up to a couple months ago. Family was everything to him and he loved his immensely. Give a hug in honor of Brian.

A visitation will be held for Brian on Tuesday, October 22nd from 10:00am-11:00am at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, immediately followed by a memorial service and reception.
