MACDONALD, Alexander “Peter” - It is with great sadness that the family of Alexander “Peter” MacDonald announce his passing on February 18, 2022 at the QEII surrounded by family at the age of 56. He was the loving husband to Peggy (née Todd) MacDonald and proud Dad to Megan, Genevieve & Todd. He is survived by his parents, Ronnie and Josephine (née Campbell) MacDonald of Port Hood, NS, sisters Kelly Nicolson (Rob) of Yellowknife, Therese (Keith Young) of Calgary, Joan of Iron Mines and brother Tom (Marilou) of Fort McMurray. Peter is also survived his in-laws David and Frances Todd of Halifax, brothers-in-law Richard Todd (Ginny) of New Glasgow and Jim Todd, of Halifax, nieces and nephews: Lena, Jesse, and Nora Young, Melyssa Todd (Joseph), and Jesse (Morgan) Todd and uncles, aunts and many cousins.
Peter loved time with family whether it was on the deck in Dartmouth or in Cape Breton. He was always willing to man the BBQ for any occasion while listening to his favourite music and sharing a laugh with friends. He was passionate about sports. He played hockey and softball throughout his life. In his adult years he developed a passion for golf. He was a dedicated Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan awaiting their Stanley Cup win for a significant number of years. He coached his son’s hockey teams in the Dartmouth Whalers Minor Hockey Association and was the recipient of the Ross Drake Memorial Coach award. He was described by the players as more than a hockey coach, as a mentor as well. He was kind and generous. He was a lover of animals and loved by his canine companions. He lit up a room with his quick wit, stories, and warm personality. Peter loved to tease everyone, and his sister Joan always quickly retorted, “Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater”. He was an avid reader and loved trivia. He was proud of his Cape Breton roots and enthusiastically watched his daughters dance from the crowd, yelling “Route 19”. Peter was described by co-workers as a larger-than-life father figure, coaching them to their greatest potential.
