Stephen was born June 19, 1927 to Paul J. and Vera (Balson) Kovacs. He grew up in Newtown, graduating from Newtown High School in 1945.
Stephen joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 18, and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
In 1962, Stephen married Virginia Lou Thompson, and moved to Danbury. He retired from Pitney Bowes in 1989, and was a proud member of the Wooster Gun Club. He will be fondly remembered as a kind-spirited outdoors man.
Stephen was predeceased by his wife Virginia, his sister Velma S. Kovacs, and brother Julius R. Kovacs. He is survived by his son Randall S. Kovacs and daughter Ginette S. MacFarquhar and her husband Rod, granddaughter Kimberly A. Ferrante and her husband Alex, and grandson Jesse E. MacFarquhar, as well as sisters-in-law Mabel Kovacs and Marilyn Thompson, and nieces Sandra Dock and her husband Rick, and Donna Kovacs.
Stephen will be buried at Saint Peter Cemetery in the spring alongside his loving wife Virginia.
