Richard was first generation Italian, born September 24, 1927 in the Bronx, the son of Felix and Margaret (Bulione) Mileto. He was an Army Veteran who served his country proudly as a Medic in Japan at the end of WWII and received awards and commendations for his service. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree; he attended the University of Wisconsin before enlisting and received his BBA from Pace University. He was the Founder and President of Progress Personnel in Manhattan, Owner of Croton Falls Wines & Spirits and in his early career worked in advertising for WPIX TV.
He went on to start a family with Elizabeth Madigan Mileto and together they had three children, Dr. Richard M. Mileto, Susanne Michelle Mileto and John F. Mileto. As a parent, he instilled in his children the importance of education and lifelong learning. Sadly, because of a tragic accident that took the life of his only daughter Susanne at 17, his life would be immeasurably changed and he missed the sound of her laughter the rest of his days.
Years later, Richard met and married Myriam Bruckman Mileto, his beloved wife of seventeen years. Together they treasured many happy memories, adventures traveling the world, endless hours on the dance floor and enjoying family gatherings. It was a full life and as they neared the end of their time together, Myriam was always there to lovingly take care of him. Sleep with the good angels Richard, we will miss you.
Besides his wife and sons, Richard leaves behind his loving sister Susan Cucolo, his Uncle Joseph Letizia who was like a brother to him, daughters-in-law Yong Liu Mileto and Peggy O'Neill-Mileto, grandchildren Martina Mileto-Vize and her husband Ciaron, Matthew Mileto, Julianna Mileto and great grandchild Neala Claire Vize.
