Marie Teresa Salgado, 93, of Bethel, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2018. Born in Lisbon, Portugal and daughter of the late Jose and Maria Generosa Henriques, Marie immigrated to the United States in 1929 and was raised in Danbury where she graduated from Danbury High School in 1943.
Marie worked as a bookkeeper at the Risdon Company followed by Eagle Pencil (Berol Corporation) where she worked most of her adult life as an inspector. Upon retirement Marie loved to organize trips with her girlfriends to many destinations around the world. She was an active volunteer in the Portuguese community serving as the treasurer of the Sons of Portugal Scholarship fund, as well as volunteering her time with Hospice.
Her husband Americo Salgado, son Richard Salgado and brother Joseph Henriques predeceased Marie. She leaves behind three sons; Edward Salgado of New Britain, Thomas Salgado of Danbury, Peter Salgado and spouse Kip Saucier of Milford, PA; a brother Edward Henriques of Danbury; nephew Mark and Patricia Henriques and their children Alexander and Ava.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17, at 10:30 AM directly at St. Peter’s Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury. Friends may call at Green Funeral home Wednesday, May 16 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Burial will be in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
