Laurie was born in Bridgeport, CT, a daughter of the late Fay Brown and Stephen R. Brown. She was raised in Sandy Hook where she developed a strong bond with her childhood friends. A graduate of Newtown High School, she majored in Communications and Theatre Arts at Western Connecticut State University where she made many lifelong friends and enjoyed performing in the theatre productions. Laurie participated in community theatre until her long-awaited starring role as a mother.
She instilled her love of theatre in her daughter with her first Broadway show at age 3. They enjoyed taking frequent trips to New York City to attend shows and meet the actors at the stage door. In addition to being an avid cat lady, she was known for her kind heart, uplifting sense of humor, and bright spirit. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and was always there for those around her.
Laurie worked for 15 years at Eastern Account System, most recently as the Director of Analytics.
In addition to her daughter, Gillian, she is survived by her sisters Nancy Cedor and her husband John of Sandy Hook, Janice and her husband Alan of Bethel, and brother Stephen Brown and his wife Mary of Beacon Falls. She was the adored aunt of John and Jesse Cedor, Jaclyn Santasiere, Karen Blazewicz, Matthew and Jeffery Gies, Lisa Parsons, Krystal, Stephany, and Jacob Brown, and 9 great nieces and nephews.
