Leo was born in Danbury, CT to John L. Cahill, Sr. and Bertha (Stolle) Cahill on July 25, 1930. He attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Danbury High. Leo went on to serve in the Navy on the USS Murray in the Korean War, then married Marie DeFazio on June 6, 1959. Leo was a Lieutenant with the Danbury Fire Department and retired after 32 years of service. He belonged to the Catholic War Veterans and was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church.
Leo always thought of others first and made sure his family was well taken care of, even up to his passing. He would go out of his way to lend a helping hand and all were welcomed in his home, especially for a Guinness or a shot of Tullamore Dew. Leo had a strong love for his Irish culture. From watching his daughter's Irish Dance, listening to Irish music, and watching the Bagpipe Mass March at Hunter Mountain. Leo also was an avid Mets and Giants fan and his passion for both teams never wavered.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents John and Bertha Cahill and his four sisters, Rita, Edna, Arline, and Dorothy.
Leo is survived by his wife Marie and his cherished daughters Patricia Cahill, MaryAnn (Charlie) Williams, and Laurie (Jim) Spencer, grandchildren and greatest pride and joy Alton and Ava Spencer, several nieces and nephews; Regina Craig, Heidi Due, and Lisa Patton who he considered his “other daughters.”
