Joan was born in Danbury, CT, to the late Dr. James and Frances Murphy. She attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Danbury High School in 1962. She then pursued her education at business school, where she earned her degree.
Joan worked at Danbury Hospital before deciding to run her own bookkeeping business for many years until her retirement. Joan cherished her time as a member of the Germantown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Danbury Yacht Club. She had a passion for boating, camping, and creating lasting memories with her friends and family.
She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Setzler, two brothers Frank and James Murphy and sister-in-law Mary Margaret Gazia.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, survivors include her children: Jacqueline Gollareny and her husband, Kevin; James McGuire, Jr. and his wife, Wyndi; and Jeff McGuire and his wife, Maureen; her grandchildren:Taylor McGuire, Kristen Rogers and her husband John, Caleigh Grasso and her husband, Andrew, James McGuire, Kyle McGuire and Matthew McGuire; a great-grandchild, Maycee McGuire; her sisters: Sue Carbone, Elizabeth Chmielewski and MaryLou Blaine; her brother-in-law, Joseph Gazia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, CT. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury, CT.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
