Barbara A. Quinn

Barbara was born in Mt Vernon, NY on August 15, 1930. She was the daughter of Julia (Tierney) Citta. She married the late J. Robert Quinn on August 9, 1953 in Scarsdale, NY.

Widowed at age 41, Barbara dedicated her life to her children, and lived her life in service to others, donating much of her time and resources to many causes and organizations, both religious and secular. Her approach to service was based on the Golden Rule: “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Following her husband’s passing, she put those words into action by driving the elderly to their doctor’s appointments, volunteering for the Red Cross, and also driving for Meals on Wheels. She would often say “It’s nice to be nice.” A simple tenant we should all live by.

She completed an associates degree in library science and

worked as a librarian for the New Canaan school system. She then worked for IBM in administration for twelve years prior to retiring in 1992 and working part time as a receptionist for a social service agency that served people with disabilities.

She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Ridgefield for over four decades and was involved in prayer groups as well as putting her love of sewing and crafting to good use in the craft guild. She founded the St. Mary’s widow and widowers club helping many people recover from the loss of a spouse with friendship and community. She also served as a volunteer at the Dorothy Day soup kitchen in Danbury for many years.

She truly lived the motto “I am my brother’s keeper,” inspiring her family and all who knew her to do the same. Those who knew her cherished her energy, spirit, and friendship. She will be greatly missed by all.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, J. Robert Quinn, her sister, Mildred, and her brothers, John and Robert Citta.

Barbara is survived by her children: Brian Quinn and his wife Gail Quinn, Barbara Jean Quinn and Joseph Monroe, Brett and his wife Mary Beth Quinn and Bruce Quinn; her twin brother, Richard Citta; her grandchildren: Tracy Vazquez, Tyler Quinn, Michael Falis, Katie Wyndorf, Rachel Miranda, Meghan Weaver, Brendan Quinn, and Ethan Quinn; and her great grandchildren: Sage Wyndorf, Mason Weaver, Olivia Weaver, Gabriella Miranda, and Juliana Miranda.

Funeral services will be held at a later date to be announced. Arrangements are by Green Funeral Home of Danbury, CT.
