“Billy Ray,” as most of his friends and family knew him, was born in Olney, TX, on September 23, 1958.
He was a little rough around the edges, but he loved all people, had a sharp sense of humor, and always spoke his mind, even when it got him into trouble. His only fears regarding the end of his life were pain and leaving Jim alone, refusing to go to a more comfortable care facility so that he could remain with Jim, demonstrating how he put others before himself.
Billy Ray served in the US Army as a young man and wasn’t afraid of hard work. He worked in a variety of professions, most recently as a pilot car driver, until his illness made it impossible to continue. He shared his love of trains with his adopted father, and he was passionate about his train collection, spending many hours restoring model train cars. He loved and rescued more animals than anyone could count and leaves behind Timex, the Boston Terrier that was a constant companion to him and Jim, and a few rabbits that lived at their home.
Billy Ray is predeceased by his adopted father Raymond Edward Hannon, his sister Sherry Ann Floyd, and his father George Glenn Brown.
He is survived by: his long-time partner of more than 21 years (and husband of almost 6 years) Jim Merry of Rockwall, TX; his mother Darlene Stevenson of Sedalia, MO; his brother Jimmy Brown of Sedalia, MO; his step-daughters Dianna Talkington (husband John) of Carrollton, TX and Renee Tyran (husband Tim) of Manchester, MD; his step-grandchildren Sara (husband Alex) McGuane, Rachel Talkington, Colton Tyran, Logan Tyran, and Callan Tyran; his “adopted” children Ben Brown (wife Lisa, son Logan) and Rachael Blansit (husband Kevin, daughter Kaitlynn); and many friends.
In accordance with Billy Ray’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. His remains are pending inurnment at DFW National Cemetery. Memorial donations may made to the ASPCA.
