Tonia Patrice Buxton – A much-loved mother, daughter, sister, prayer warrior and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2019 surrounded by her family. She bravely confronted and fought breast cancer. She kept her faith and won!
Tonia was born September 24, 1967 in New Orleans, Louisiana where she lived many years prior to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She relocated several times after 2005 until she made Arlington, Texas her home. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1985. She received a Bachelors and Masters Degree of Social Work from Southern University- New Orleans Campus and was a very proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority INC. Tonia joined the LA. Army National Guard/U.S Army Reserve shortly after high school and received an Honorable Discharge in 1991.
Tonia worked as an Equal Employment Opportunity Manager with the Federal Government. During her 26 year tenure with the Federal Government she served with several agencies including: U.S. Coast Guard Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of The Interior-Minerals Management Services, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Dept of Defense- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Tonia was a disciplined and devoted woman with a strong faith in God and was a longtime member of Greater Saint Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana where she studied and received her ministerial license. Upon relocating to Texas she received the right hand of fellowship at The Potter’s House and most recently Friendship -West.
Nothing made Tonia happier than spending quality time with family and friends. She is survived by two daughters: Andrea Monique Joseph (1st marriage - Andrew Mark Joseph) and Mariah Janay Cain (2nd marriage -Walter Zeno Cain), her mother: Verlia Robinson Buxton, grandmother: Elizabeth Robinson, step-mother: Sabrina Odin- Buxton, three sisters: Nerissia Buxton- Carroll, Shannon Buxton-O’Connor (Darin), and Seantell Landry and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, extended family and friends who were all blessed to have her in their lives. Tonia was preceded in death by her father: Forest “Buck” Buxton, paternal grandparents: Clarence and Genetta Buxton and maternal grandfather: Edwin D. Robinson Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the family to assist with the on-going college tuition expenses for her daughters Andrea (Nursing – Mountain View College) and
Mariah (Freshman – University of North Texas).
